Always limit your resume to one page. However, if the information is truly important and necessary, two pages are acceptable. Tip: You do not need to state everything you have done on a resume, but everything you state must be true.

Determine the type of layout that works best for your experience. There are several types of resumes style: Chronological, Skills, Functional and Combination.

Tailor your resume to the type of position to which you are applying. Decide what you want your resume to convey. Your resume should highlight why you feel you are the best qualified for the position you're applying for. Tip: Avoid a "one size fits all" model.

Be concise and clear in your descriptions. Trying to impress employers with the use of complicated or confusing words is not recommended. Only list keywords that apply to you and use words for skills you actually have.

Make sure there are no typing, spelling or grammar errors. You may use the Spell check function to aid you, but remember that spell check is not full proof. Tip: Have someone to proofread your resume is a good approach.

Be consistent in your writing style. For example, if your headings are in bold type, all headings should be in bold. Choose an easy to read font, eg Arial or Times New Roman. Font size should not be larger than 14 point and no smaller than 10 point.

If you are mailing your resume to the employer, print it on quality paper. Use the same color and type of paper for the resume and envelope.
