Some tips on how to handle a job interview

Learn about the organization by doing some research before the interview. One way is to visit the company’s Website or call the company to find out more. Tip: Practice interviewing with a friend or relative.

Do dress appropriately, as the first impression counts. Avoid jeans (For gentlemen) and low cut (for ladies).

Always be on time for an interview, preferable 15 minutes before the scheduled time of your interview. This will give you amble time to relax and fill out an application, if necessary.

During the interview, smile, be polite and greet the interviewers with a firm handshake.

Keep frequent eye contact with the interviewers. Try to relax and use body language to show interest.

Listen carefully to the questions asked. If you are uncertain, request the interviewer to rephrase. Respond promptly by answering each question concisely and as directly as possible. Tip: It’s beneficial to use examples of how your skills and abilities would fit the job.

Listed are some common questions that the interviewers are interested to inquire on:

Tell me about yourself.

What do you know about the type of work we do?

What are your strengths and weakness?

Why did you leave your last job?

Why have you been unemployed for such a long time?

Why should we hire you?

Why do you want to work here specifically?

At the end of the interview, thank the interviewers for their time. Remember the interviewer's full name and title, alternatively request for their business card.

Tip: After the interview send a thank you note to the interviewers. Since so few people do it, you'll distinguish yourself on this point alone.
